Aviary and cage birds
Our veterinary surgeons deal with avians on a regular basis and many have contributed to numerous chapters in veterinary text books relating to cage and aviary birds including the BSAVA manuals.
All of our veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses are fully trained in the handling of birds and over the years have gained an incredible amount of experience.
We are able to advise both the individual pet owner, pet shops and breeders with confidence, and have parrot packs available with top tips on caring for your bird.
We stock Harrison’s bird food and highly recommend it for a healthy, happy bird.
Raptors
The practice has extensive experience with raptors and is one of the few veterinary facilities with dedicated mews specifically built to house hospitalised birds outside. The birds are constantly monitored by CCTV. We have all the basic falconry equipment, such as blocks, leather work, hoods and food, necessary to look after your bird.
Our services range from basic health checks including coping, microchipping and worming to the full investigation of ill birds.
Diagnostics
If a bird is not flying well or not maintaining its weight we have the ability to diagnose subtle problems before the disease becomes life threatening. Invariably this will involve faecal and blood analysis carried out in our own laboratory which ensures quick and accurate results. Endoscopy is also an extremely useful procedure in this group of birds particularly as it can provide an instant diagnosis for aspergillosis. Surprisingly it is also a relatively cheap procedure.
Orthopaedics
We are extremely well equipped for orthopaedic procedures with specialised external fixators enabling the repair of fractures whilst not compromising the flying ability of the bird. We are also able to advise falconers on the physiotherapy protocols required to improve the speed of recovery.
We are also able to advice on the care and rehabilitation of injured raptors.
